Baby Names we Love but Wont be Using

baby names we love but wont be using

I wrote this exact same baby names post a couple of years ago whilst I was pregnant with Theodore. The names I listed are ones that we still very much love but we know we certainly won’t use for this summer 2020 baby for whatever reason. Since we’ve decided not to find out the gender we’ve got to have a boys and girls name ready for the arrival of this little one, and luckily we have! We’ve had a strong girl and boy name ever since we decided to start trying for this second babe, and I really don’t think our minds on them will be changed.

Middle names on the other hand? Stuck. Clueless. Not sure whether to use a family name or to think of something fresh. Theodore’s middle name is Lee, which is both my dad and Brad’s dad’s name. So Theodore is named after both his grandads. We have a couple of middle name ideas which will be family related but we just can’t quite agree, and honestly, all our family names suck! We keep flicking through our baby name book but nothing. We need middle name help!

So here is our list of both girl and boy baby names we love but won’t be using for this babe. I’ll give a short reason to why we’ve decided to rule it out, most of the reasons are just because we don’t love it as much as our chosen names.

Mabel

One that I love a lot but I just can’t seem to get Brad on board with. Reminds him too much of the word table, and I’d have to agree.

Cameron

I adore Cameron for a girl but of course, Brad disagrees and says it reminds him too much of Cameron Dias.

Zaria

Zaria was a high contender for Theodore before we knew he was a boy. We still like it a lot and think it goes perfectly with Zealand, but we now realise it doesn’t match Theodore’s name very well at all.

Luca

A name we’ve loved for years but we just can’t stand the idea of it being shortened to Luke instead. Totally puts us off enough to not use it altogether.

Tobias (Toby)

Another contended for Theodore which never made the cut. We loved Toby from the character from Pretty Little Liars. We now think Theodore and Tobias are too similar for a pair of brothers.

Caleb

The only reason I’m ‘off’ this name is because it starts with a C just like my name does… I don’t want to share!

Norah

One we both love a lot but have seen get super popular over the last few years. Seems to be Norah’s popping up everywhere which has just put us off.

Euan

Funnily enough, we spent the first two days of Theodore’s life in the hospital trying to choose whether he’d be Euan or Theodore. Super glad we chose Theodore because it just suits him so well. Now we feel like we couldn’t use it for another child since he was so almost called that.

Leon

One Brad has loved since before Theodore. I just can’t get on board with it because it reminds me of the SEAT Leon car too much. The car we’ve actually got.

Ivvy

One of my personal life time favourites. Brad hates it because he says it’s a nasty plant that climbs walls.

Murphy

Another that I like that Brad just wont get on board with. Shame because I think its super cute.

Luna

We loved this for years but then in the space of a couple months we met a dog and a cat named this. So in the trash it went!

Is there any names on this list you love or hate? Let me know you’re reasonings! Would love to see if anyone can take a guess at our chosen boy and girl name! *hint* Both are quiet traditional names just like Theodore’s. Also, give us middle name suggestions please!

We’ve had a boys name in mind for ages! It’s the girl’s name we struggle with! x x

I absolutely love Ivvy but my partner says its a nasty plant too! I might get to win that round though as it’s one of his grandmothers names haha!

You’ve got my all time favourite boys name of here, it’s a character out of one of my favourite books, glad you didn’t steal it, can’t be having 3rd cousins with the same name 😉

We really really loved Cleo and Isaac but immediately ruled out anything beginning and ending with a ‘c’ sound. Our surname is Hunt and we couldn’t bear giving them the initials C. Hunt.

It took us so long to decide on Pippa that I dread having to go through the name deciding process again!

I love Luca and Luna. But they are all great names whichever you choose.

We had quite a few names we liked but didn’t consider as we needed a name that was could be pronounced the same in two languages, which ruled out a few of our favourites, e.g. we loved Maisie for a girl, but our German relatives all pronounced it “My-zee” which sounded awful.

This is brilliant. I love your approach. Solid reasons. I had no names to go for. With twenty years of teaching, there were associations with pretty much every name.

I think im grateful that I won’t need to pick baby names again, there as so many that I love, but working in a school means there are a lot that I love but could never use now!

I love the name Norah and don’t know any if that helps. I work in a pre-school and names seem to go in trends. My new grandaughter is Lilah and we didn’t know any until a little girl started with me this week called Lyla!

These are interesting names. I really like old fashioned names like Charles and George etc. I like Luna.

Mabel (because I love the name) and Toby (because I have one that’s 11) … and Ralph!

I had loads of ideas for girls but struggled so much for boys. I don’t like names that can be shortened so I had a hard time.
