Getting the builders in to renovate your home sometimes has to be done, remember it won’t be forever and once they’re gone, you’ll be left with your dream home. There are some ways you can make the whole thing so much easier for yourself, and here are a few tips on how to do that:
Get Everything Done In One Go
If you’re getting the kitchen and the bathroom done, then do it all at once. You may as well have the mess and disruption once rather than twice, plus it’s far better than you get the same contractor to do both jobs so that nothing has to be re-done.
Keep Your Stuff Safe
If there’s anything valuable in your house or furniture that is likely to be in the way or get ruined then have a look into personal self-storage solutions to keep your things. Otherwise, anything that does stay in the house you need to cover with polythene sheets and get temporary floor covers if you’re worried about your carpets.
Prepare Ahead Of Time
If you’re going to be without a kitchen or part of a kitchen, then look at what you will have access too. If you’re still going to be able to use your microwave, then cook plenty of meals in bulk before the work begins and freeze them so that you have some healthy home cooked meals on hand. You’ll also need to make sure you’ve got the Deliveroo app, and the Just Eat app downloaded on your phone for those days when microwave meals just won’t cut it.
If you’re going to be without a bathroom, you can’t have loads of showers ahead of time, but what you can do is have a friendly chat with your neighbors about borrowing theirs for a bit or join a gym so that you can go there and use the facilities.
Remember Who’s In Charge
Don’t forget that your builders are working for you. They might be lovely, but they are not your friends so if things aren’t going the way you want them to are they are not doing things how you discussed then you need to speak to them. At times you might have to compromise because at the end of the day, they are the expert and they will know if what you want can or can’t be done, but don’t accept something that you don’t want otherwise you will regret it for years to come.
Stock Up On Essentials
You’ll need a load of tea and biscuits in for the builders but remember that you’re going to need plenty of wine, chocolates, and biscuits too as this is going to be a stressful time for you.
Don’t Forget The End Goal
Keep reminding yourself that the result will be worth the pain, it will be worth the expense and all the hassle too. When you finally get through and have your dream kitchen, an extension, a new bathroom or whatever it is you’re getting done it could transform your life and make you never want to leave your beautiful home.
