Sending Messages to the Future with TimeSpring

This is a collaborative post.

Creating and keeping memories has been something I’ve found so important with Theodore, even before he was born I was writing letters for my ‘bump’, for the little girl or boy inside to read one day. I have wanted to treasure every-single-moment since the moment I found out I was pregnant. Obviously that’s not possible, it’s not possible to capture every moment, every thought, every word. I defiantly know I could do more to treasure these moments, I’ve seriously been slacking when it comes to filling out his baby record book (which I feel so guilty about), there is just so much ‘stuff’ to get done, that filling it out slowly drops lower and lower on my to-do list.

I’m so thankful for the monthly updates I’ve been doing here on the blog, I can go back month by month and see what he was up too. I’ve been printing these posts out and sticking them in his scrapbook for him to read one day.

I was talking about creating keepsakes for babies on Twitter not long ago, I even wrote a blog post about it. Then TimeSpring reached out to me about their wonderful app. It’s so different to any other family apps out there. They’ve thought of a whole new way to save moments from our day to day lives and keep them safe until some time in the future. The whole idea is about writing notes on the app for your loved ones (babies, partners, parents, maybe even yourself!). You then set a date you wish these notes to be sent to their email address, and when that day comes *ping* there it is, a little surprise you wrote for them maybe 5, 10, 20 years ago. How bloody special.

I’ve currently been writing letters to Theodore for him to receive in 2031 (surely it’s never going to be 2031?!) which is the year he’ll turn 13 (anyone else feel sick at the thought of having an 13 year old?!). He’ll automatically get these messages sent to him via email. He’ll be able to look into the past and find out what he was doing all those years ago. You can also include photographs, which I’m sure 20 years down the line will bring a smile on anybodies face.

I can’t wait for the days that he starts receiving these messages, hopefully we’ll read over them together and I can tell him more about those special memories we made all those years ago.

I’m completely in love with this idea, it’s so useful and smart. Sometimes we’re so focused on the future we forget to think about the past, we forget about all the wonderful times we’ve had, and the things we did. I love looking back on old letters and photographs from my friends 10+ years ago. My and my oldest friend used to send letters in the post to each other every week, it was sort of a little diary we kept and sent to each other. Funny thing is we only lived two streets away from each other, but it was just something we loved to do. I still have all those letters now, dated and everything. It’s so nice to look back on the innocence we once had at the age of 13. I’ve even kept class notes that me and my friends would pass to each other, I’m definitely a hoarder when it comes to the sentimental stuff, but honestly I wouldn’t have it any other way.

At least this app keeps it all digital, doesn’t take up room in a box on a shelf in the back of the cupboard (which I totally don’t mind, but theres only so much stuff a house can hold!). This is easy – no quibble, send a quick note reminding the person you love just how much you love them. I’ll be treasuring this app over and over again as Theodore grows up, I can tell him about his ‘firsts’, send him funny photos and remind him of the hilarious things he starts to come out with. Send him messages on his birthday so he can look back on the years we’ve spent together and overall just tell him how much we love him, and how much we always will.

I cannot recommend this app enough, especially if you’re the type of person who has a hard time finding the time to physically create letters and keepsakes. This will do it all for you, just enter what you want to say, long or short, and the rest is all done and saved away ready to send on your chosen date.

If you fancy giving TimeSpring ago, you can download it here on Apple and here on Android. It’s completely free by the way! And never runs out of storage… so write everyday, or once a year, it doesn’t mind.
