A Reflection on 2017 – The Year Everything Changed

This post is long overdue. I did plan on finishing it on New Years Eve and posting it that day… But ya’ know, I spent New Years Eve pushing a human out of my front bottom. But I still really wanted to share it with you all.

2017

The year that changed my life. The year I finally graduated, the year I got engaged, the year I fell pregnant and the year my baby was born. What an absolute whirlwind. Walking into January 2017 I never even DREAMT that any of those things would happen. I remember writing my “New Years Resolutions for 2017” post, how clueless was I about what the year would actually bring. One of my resolutions was to “Get Fit, Not Skinner” – Little did I know I would gain 2.5 stone growing my lovely baby for the majority of the year. Another resolution was to “Save more Towards our Deposit” which we have actually managed to do! We would have more saved, but babies cost money (a hell of a lot!), we also had to fork out for a new car so that we could actually fit our soon arriving baby in, so that set us back a little.

It’s was certainly a year of change. A year that I managed to pack in as MUCH as humanly possible, I didn’t know it was possible to tick so many things of my life time ‘to do’ list in a period of 12 months.

Getting Engaged

On the 19th of May Bradley asked me if I would become his wife, and of course I said yes! After months (probably more like years) of asking if he was ever going to ask me to marry him (I’m a pushy woman…!) he finally did it after managing to pick a ring which I LOVE without any input from me. I came home from the gym one evening, to find him in the kitchen with all the lights off and tea light candles lit, after walking over to me and telling me the most beautiful things I’d ever heard, he got down on one knee and asked the question I had been waiting for.

Falling Pregnant

Very early on at the start of the year we decided to let nature take its course. To see if the earth would bless us on its own accord without actively ‘trying to conceive’. And boy did nature bless us, after coming off contraception I became pregnant straight away. On the 18th of April we stared at those two positive lines on that pee covered pregnancy test and luckily our little boy stuck and grew big and strong inside me for 279 days. What a 279 days it was. You can read all about my pregnancy in these posts here. The majority of my pregnancy was super easy and ‘by the book’. Until the last month or so when I had a few little blips but still manage to carry full term and 6 days past my due date.

Graduating

After falling massively behind with all my coursework, I didn’t think I would be able to finish and pass my course. I don’t think my tutors did either. In the last few months of 2016 I became ill, and was in a lot of pain, which resorted in me reaching the most anxious state I had ever experienced in my whole life. I think my class mates must have noticed the change in me. I don’t think my tutors saw me cry once for the whole 5 years I was there until those last couple of months when I must have cried 100’s of times. I think the only thing that got me out of that black hole was falling pregnant with Theodore which gave me this whole new reason for life. So I think I have to thank falling pregnant with him which gave me the push I needed to finish and complete my course. Which, by the way was in photography.

Becoming a Mum

Three hours and seven minutes until 2017 was over I became a mother. Our beautiful Theodore was born at 20:53 on the 31st of December 2017, the perfect way to end the year, and the most AMAZING way to start to 2018. The moment he was plonked on my chest my heart had never felt fuller, I felt like I didn’t dare breathe incase it was all a dream. His eyes and mine were locked for what felt like a life time, I couldn’t believe it, finally, I had my baby.

What. A. Year.
