Over the last year I have really tried to concentrate on my happiness. Happiness is such a blissful feeling when you’re comfortable with everything around you. Sometimes when we’re in dark places for too long finding happiness can be difficult and sometimes impossible. But happiness can be found in the smallest places, you’ve just got too know where to look.
I’ve written a short list of the things that make me smile on a daily bases, hopefully they can make you smile too! Even after a long period of time feeling lower than low these may help you crawl out of the dark.
1. The Smell of Cats
Any cat owner will tell you that cats have a smell about them, I don’t know what it is but they smell so sweet, especially shorter haired cats. I sadly no longer own any cats but my best friend Shannon does and I dream of cuddles with her cat, Nanny.
2. Cats in General
I love cats, any cat, your cat. I’m always finding myself late because I had to stop and pet a cat. I long for the day when we move out and are able to surround ourselves daily in kitties (This may also work with dogs, but I wouldn’t know).
3. Hot Showers
Nothing is better than stepping in the shower after a long hard day. When I get home after work all I want more than anything is to strip off and get straight in. Bonus if you get to use anything tea-tree related, it just helps you relaxxxxxxx
4. Fresh Good-tasting Coffee
Oh-My-God, A delicious perfect temperature cup of coffee I could just gulp down is a huge pick me up. Although I find it hard to find good tasting coffee as I have to drink decaf (sucks I know). I love to take my coffee in the shower (we have a shelf) as it’s like two gallons of happiness all at once. Also nothing beats drinking coffee naked.
5. That Smell Before a Storm
This is a smell thats worth getting drenched for, that strange musty-like smell that we all can’t get enough of – the un-explainable smell of delight.
Sunday’s are family days, days where an extra hour in bed is acceptable. Day’s where everyone is home and the roast dinner is cooking and day’s where cuddles whilst watching movies are expected.
7. Wild Flowers
If you follow me on Instagram you will already know I am a sucker for flowers, or in fact anything green. I guess I get it from my mothers herbalist roots, bringing me up in a pot of parsley.
8. When Vehicles Move Aside for Emergency Vehicles
This gives me a weird warm feeling and a tear to my eye. Some how it amazes me that we will move out the way to help others get emergency care. It just shows me there is some hope for mankind left on this earth.
9. A Babies Giggle
What a play on the heart strings, a babies giggle must be the happiest sound. Bradley’s cousin May whose 3 months old has the most contagious giggle, I would blow raspberries all day long until my lips fell off to hear her laugh.
10. Long Hugs
What’s better than a long hug from the person you love. Most day’s I long for a hug of Bradley when he gets home from work, it almost feels like its what I’ve been waiting for the whole day.
So there it is, the 10 things that bring me happiness. Hopefully you’ll be able to find happiness in these places too.
What are some of your happy places?
p.s I decided to do a bit of research on the smell of storms… Turns out what we’re smelling is a fresh aroma of ozone, which is a form of oxygen!
